About Nanda Devi Raj Jat
Nanda Devi Raj Jat (nandarajjat.com) is an independent information project about the Nanda Devi Raj Jat, the Himalayan pilgrimage in Chamoli district, Uttarakhand. Its aim is simple: to give pilgrims, researchers and curious readers one place where the route, the villages and the practical facts are laid out clearly and honestly.
What you will find here
- Articles: original guides to the pilgrimage, its route, places such as Bedni Bugyal and Roopkund, and safety on the high ground.
- The interactive route map: 19 days, 17 halts and 46 places, measured from surveyed GeoJSON data, with a plain-text table of every day and halt.
- Latest information: headlines and videos about the yatra gathered from public sources, each linked to its original publisher.
Where our information comes from
Three kinds of source sit behind this site, and we keep them apart on the page:
- Survey data. Route lines and place locations come from three GeoJSON files. We measure distances ourselves from those files and publish the method, including the known errors, in How this map was made.
- Published reference material. Descriptions and legends of places along the route are paraphrased from a printed Raj Jat booklet. Legends are reported as legends.
- News and social media. These are third-party reports. We link to them and label them; we do not vouch for them.
Editorial standards
- We separate measured, sourced and unverified. A distance computed from the data is labelled as measured; a figure we could not check, such as the commonly quoted 280 km, is labelled unverified.
- We do not invent facts. Where we have no source, such as an elevation, a facility or a start date, we say so instead of filling the gap. The map leaves out medical posts, shelters and similar facilities for exactly this reason.
- We write in our own words. We do not copy articles from other sites. News items show a headline and a link to the publisher.
- We credit and link our sources at the foot of each article.
- We correct errors openly. If something is wrong we fix it, say what changed and note the date on the page. Report errors through the contact page.
What this site is not
- It is not an official notice board. For dates, routes, restrictions and permissions, consult the Chamoli district administration and the organising committees. We do not issue official announcements and are not a registration or booking service.
- It is not medical or safety authority. Our altitude and safety guide is general information only.
- It is not a source of dates we cannot confirm. At the time of writing we could not verify an official start date for the next Raj Jat, and we say so on the relevant pages.
Advertising and independence
Some pages may show advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no say in what we write or how we describe any place or tradition, and ads are not placed on pages that only list third-party headlines. See the privacy policy for how advertising and analytics cookies work and how to control them.
Updates and corrections
This log records significant changes to the site’s content, so that readers can see that it is maintained.
- 5 October 2026: Published nine original articles, the About, Contact, Privacy and Terms pages, and a plain-text version of the route table. Rebuilt the interactive map from the supplied survey files and corrected a statement that overstated how closely the source distances agree with the measured ones.
- Ongoing: Latest-information items are reviewed before publication.
